BillandPam Favorite Rides

Bill and Pam have been married 34 years. We had a motorcycle when we first met in1976. We average 15,000 miles per year touring the USA on our Harley. We live near Shelbyville Kentucky and have some great roads for motorcyclists right out of our drive. Some favorite roads include US421from Frankfort to Milton KY, KY150 from Stanford to Mt Vernon Ky, US60 from Ft Knox Ky to Wickliffe Ky, US127 from Lawrenceburg Ky to Albany Ky, KY11 from Oneida Ky to Stanton Ky, and US460 from Frankfort Ky to West Liberty Ky. Local ride on KY395 is great riding if just going out for an hour or two. US62 from Bardstown to Versailles Ky is a nice day trip.

On May 30, 2008 I took a little roadtrip from Kentucky to California with a couple friends of mine. Our plan was to ride our motorcycles to Alaska but the roads were too bad from three weeks of rain. We had gone as far as Sturgis SD when we realized we'd simply left too early to go to Alaska. We decided since we had never been west of the Mississippi River on motorcycles we would ride to California and ride Hwy 1 up the coast. We also decided to visit as many national parks and monuments as possible. We had a great adventure riding backroads as we zigzagged across the USA. During four weeks of riding we camped all but four nights and rode through 20 states. Places we visited include: Mt. Rushmore, Devils Tower, Crazy Horse memorial, Badlands National Park, Deadwood SD, Estes Park CO, Monarch Pass CO, Grand Canyon National Monument, Las Vegas NV, and San Francisco CA. The small towns were just as interesting if not more so than some of the big name locations. Total miles was about 9,000 and we were mostly riding 300-400 miles per day. We met many really interesting people on our journey and that adds so much to the adventure. People were interested in hearing about the places we'd seen and where we were headed next. The last day on the road was depressing as we all knew this great adventure was about to end. We've completed several shorter rides since then and they were great fun but I don't think anything can top that month of adventure in 2008. I'd do it over again without hesitation if I had the opportunity.

The best of the best. These folks have ridden and shared more roads than any other ORJ member this month.
