Topic: The things you carry Posted: 21 Mar 2007 at 11:02pm |
What do you keep on your bike for emergencies? I'm lucky to have a decent space under the seat and I stuff a few things in there: - A few bungees
- Couple of rags
- Tire repair (tire plugs and CO2 inflator)
- Tools: 1/4" ratchet, 4" extension, sockets to fit every nut on my bike, bit driver, phillips and flat bits, knife/pliers multi-tool, axle wrench, zip ties, electrical tape, cigarette lighter, air pressure gauge.
Since I also have hard saddle bags, I always have a bottle of water, light/heavy gloves (depending on which I happen to be waring) and a neck sock in one of them. In the dash cubby I keep the registration, a pen and some parking change.

I ride a touring bike also.
In the left bag, I keep a small tool set similar to yours and rags, (just, so I can give assistance to fellow riders in need of help along the road ha-ha or myself) spare set of spark plugs, Harleys like prem. fuel and if you can't get it, the plugs will fowl (voice of experience speaking from the trip to the Grand Canyon and Colorado last summer). I also carry and recommend a first aid kit, just incase. I also carry my rain suit, chaps and gloves in this bag. It is almost full but I know where to find my rain gear quickly, just incase the nearest overpass isn't close enough. This leaves the right saddlebag and tour trunk ready to be loaded for the next trip.
If a group of us take off on a long trip or vacation, I pull a trailer with my bike and we load the camping gear, clothes, cooler and the rest of the house (there I said it for everybody) in the trailer. I prefer to pull a trailer to keep the weight off of the bike and everybody happy.
Happy trails.

Hmmm.... had to go look in the saddlebag to remind myself!
- Bungees, a pair of three different sizes. These things by far get the most use. I've used them for everything from tying down dinner to holding firewood in place while transporting to our campsite!
- Tire repair (plugs and a small mountain bike handpump)
- 1/4" ratchet, multi-tool.
- 1 rag (half of an old t-shirt)
- Rain suit.
- Snicker's bar - when you're lost in the middle of nowhere with nothing to eat this can be a life saver!!
- Wife

-MoTow Card and Phone Number.
-Cell Phone
-Cash in case the Cell Phone doesn't work
I know, that's pretty lame.

Dang - I guess I'm what you'd call a light packer.
- Wallet
- CellPhone
Of course, I don't go for super long tours either. More of a daytripper I guess.

The one thing that is always with me is a first aid kit, other items depend on ride duration.
