AUTHOR'S DESCRIPTION:
If you like tooling down two lane highways eastern Iowa is a good place to come. We may not have the tightest twisties, but you can still lean into a curve or two.
This route will take you near two state parks, Wapsipinicon and Maquoketa Caves. Nice places to escape from the summer heat.

You'll pass through small towns that if you blink you'll miss them, but there is usually a cafe that the regulars always meet at. These are great places for stories, tales, and conversation.

The town of Anamosa has the National Motorcycle Museum http://www.nationalmcmuseum.org/ and don't forget to stop at J & P Cycle just outside of town on Hwy 151 for parts and accessories.

FlapJacks in Maquoketa http://www.flapjax.com/ is a great place for lunch or dinner. It's right off Hwy 61 on the main drag.

Stop in Mount Vernon, home of Cornell College, for a slice of Small Town Americana.
COMMENTS:
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
Just south of Lisbon and MtVernon is a small unincorporated town of Sutliff. This is where the oldest and longest Parker truss span bridge in Iowa if not the U.S. is located and is a favorite stop for bikers to visit and have lunch or dinner and a cool drink at the general store and tavern and watch the Cedar River go by. The Sutliff bridge is no longer open to car traffic and part of the span washed away in the 2008 flood stopping foot traffic and musicians from walking out and enjoying the day on the bridge. People from around Iowa and Illinois have found this stop and commented that they have lived here their entire lives and never knew the bridge and general store existed. The Sutliff Bridge Authority has been actively working with FEMA, State Historical Society, county, and structural engineer officials to rebuild this piece of history. www.sutliffbridge.com/
