We started our trip in Texas however the scenic trip really started once we got near Cloudcroft. Lots and lots of twists, and frankly didn't see too much traffic! You will see many cool sites (White Sands National Park, Very Large Array Telescope, Cooper Mine, Tons of Mountains, Ghost towns, etc). From Las Cruces DO NOT take I-25, go into town and take CR 185 up through Hatch, NM this is a great riding road with little traffic and GREAT scenic value. Hwy 152 into Silver City goes through mountains and is really scenic and will pass a really cool cooper mine ( DO NOT miss this road!!) Day 2 from Silver City you will pass through Greenwood, NM there is a 9-10 mile ride into the mountains where you can go to a real GHOST town ( be careful road has soft shoulders and blind hairpins), my best friend laid his bike town in this area. The V.L.A. Telescope is near Socorro try not to miss this if you like that stuff! Day 3 takes you through Ruidoso and we took a ride up to Apache SKI area on CR 532, really scenic and gets you up to 10,000 ft +. Take your time and ENJOY!!!
