this is a great ride (my personal favorite) there's farmland, rolling hills cliffs over looking the mississippi river, lots and lots of twisties, forests. not to mention quant little towns, touristy towns, bike friendly restaurants and bars. harley, triumph, sizuki, yamaha and kaw dealerships for the tee shirt collector. i like breakfast at boone family restaurant corner of rt 76 and rt 173 10 miles after ride beginning. for a good sand and rootbeer on tap go to Baumgardners on the square in monroe. don't miss new diggens it's your quentisential biker town (12 houses, 1 church & 2 bars). the bar on north side of road is my favorite, they play blues almost exclusively, and wed nite and on weekends they have a blues piano player and singalong. you can modify the ride to visit J & P cycles in anamosa (also motorcycle museum in town) to get to anamosa continue on 151 outside debuque instead of a left on rt 52. follow 151 about 1 hour out of debuque J & P is on your right just before anamosa (you can't miss it) also take the next exit ( rt 64 ) past J & P to downtown anamosa for motorcycle museum. after museum take rt 64 east out of town to sebula iowa (also very scenic road) continue into savanah on 64. in savana you have some fun choices. the iron horse social club and museum (about 30 bikes). then just south of town there is 'poopies' (our prices are cheaper than shit) restaurant, bar, bike repair, tatoos, tee shirts, live entertainment, free camping on weekends. visit website. galena is a nice little touristy town. lots of specialty shops, restaurants, B&B's, and old victorian homes. as you continue back on the stagecoach trail the nora bar(nora, IL) offers the 1 pound 'knarley burger'. when you get back to belvidere (corner state & appleton) stop at dodge lanes ask for harry and tell him bill sent you. gas: belvidere is good, wisconsin is better than Illinois, and Iowa is usually best. harley dealers you pass: kutters in janesville, kutters in monroe, wilwerts in galena and kagels in rockford. generally roads are in pretty good shape. wis and io are generally better than il (thanks gov rod) but as you go thru clinton wi put on your kidney belt. like i said this is my favorite ride, i do it 4 or 5 times a year and there is always something new and different. boone co. fairgrounds - fair in aug, mechum classic car auction late spring. monroe - cheese days every other june, J & P has several ride ins per year. savanah has several bike/ rock festivals per year. poopies festivals, iron horse has festivals. there are several art festivals peppered throughout the route. if you can't have fun on this ride you need to seriously get a life. live to ride - ride to live. call me i'll go with you.bill 585 729-8479hdbill@insightbb.com
