This is a great day trip out of Ukiah, CA where I was staying. there are many amazing sites to see in this area you will just have to do a little research to see what suits you best. Myself, I went for beaches, historic sites, (ie. light house) and the giant redwoods and of course great roads for riding. first and foremost I would say tip #1, be prepared for drastic temperature changes! the day I rode, July 3rd 2016, I saw temperature changes of 40 degrees. Though I did not expect this, I was, thankfully, prepared for it. my day started in the 70's dropped into the high 40's and ended in the mid 90's. just be ready for anything. tip # 2, top of the fuel tank before heading out. I'm just gonna leave that there. So head north on Hwy 101 to Hwy 20 west to Fort Bragg, CA. Hwy 20 is approximately 33 miles if mostly curvy, hilly and very recently repaved road. I went on a Sunday morning and traffic was almost none existent. Plan on mostly 25 to 45 mph for this first leg of the journey. Once you arrive at Hwy 1, go north into town, (Fort Bragg), to go to Glass Beach. after your done exploring Fort Bragg head south on Hwy 101, along the way there are many nice picture opportunity's. I than made my way over to Point Cabrillo Light Station. Be prepared to do a little walking but the views are well worth it. From there continue south on Hwy 1 to the small, don't blink, town of Elk, CA. pop.250, SALUTE! here on the left side you will see Queenies roadhouse café, amazing food and most of all amazing people. keep in mind, I believe they are only open Thursday thru Sunday FYI. after lunch get back on Hwy 1 and head back north once you get to the stop sign on the bridge turn right and you are on Hwy 128. For me, this is one of the most breathtaking roads I personally have ever rode. you will soon hit an 11 mile stretch of California giant redwoods. Plenty of turn outs to take pictures or just park and walk around. run Hwy 128 to Booneville and catch Hwy 253 back to Ukiah. Hwy 253 will get very twisty hilly and fun! Your tires will thank you as you wear off that flat center line and start chewing of the unused portion of your tires... all in all its about 160 miles and a good day of riding. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Stay safe!
