Fill up your tank in Oakley for the lonely trip to Colorado Springs. There are a couple of stops in between for lunch and gas, but mostly you will see western Kansas at it's best. I love the route especially at sunset coming in to Colorado Springs.At Wallace, KS the Fort Wallace museum is right along the road and fun to visit.

I like curves as much as the next guy. There are not many on this route, but the solitude and open beauty make up for the straight roads. After pounding interstate from Illinois, I love this last stretch in to Colo Sprgs. It's good for the soul. You will see antelope, pheasant, and many cows. What you won't see is people. Crank it up.
