Best of the WV Panhandle. Start off in VA horse country riding down a smooth 2 lane passing through small towns with farms and polo fields. After a while, the road will turn into a 4 lane as you cruise towards Winchester Va. Winchester is a very historical town and you could actually spend a day exploring this town. Route 50 will wind through downtown so pay extra attention to road signs as you will be making a lot of turns in Winchester. Leave Winchester and head out into the country towards WV. The road here is 2 lane and is a nice country ride with rolling hills. Head north on 29 which takes you through rural farm lands. 29 will merge with 9, you will go east towards Berkeley Springs. This section is very scenic with alot of hills and sweepers. In Berkeley Springs, stop at the Earth Dog Cafe for a bite to eat. After lunch, continue on 9 towards Martinsburg. this section of the ride is very scenic and is a nice mountain ride. After Martinsburg, the road will turn into a 4 lane for a few miles as you head to Charlestown. Be careful of the casino as it tends to seperate people from their cash. 9 will turn back into a nice 2 lane as is heads back towards Leesburg Va. There are some nice twisties near Mission Ridge and a lot of deer in this section. Once in VA, you will pass a few wineries and go through some nice farm country. 9 ends in Leesburg where you can pick up 15 and head back to 50.
