blind willie mctell, best known for his song 'statesboro blues' which became the allman bros. signature song, is buried outside thompson ga. at jones chapel on happy valley road. the ride from anderson sc is mostly lonely old country roads. but they're in really good shape. i'm tellin ya, you can go several miles without meeting any traffic, maybe pass a tractor or two. i camped at winfield c/g on strom thurmond lake. nice sunset. the ride back to greenwood is all backroads. a very enjoyable trip.
