Ignore the fact your trip tarts in the beautiful Golden Isles of SE GA (St Simons, Sea Island and Jekyll Island. You could spend a day, a week or a lifetime here. It is a naturally amazing place..but you want to ride, so here goes.

Pick up your last piece of gear at Golden Isles HD at I95 Exit 38 and head South on I 95 to Exit 29. Turn right and make a left at the second light. Turn left and you are on Route 17, the old coastal highway. Its two lanes of really good road through Woodbine (has a crawfish festival each year) and then Kingsland which is home of a U.S. Navy Submarine Base. You will cross over the St Mary's River into Florida. 17 will take you back under I 95. Take a left on 200 to Fernandina Beach/ Amelia Island (another place you could spend a lifetime in). Follow the signs to downtown Fernandina Beach. Straight ahead is the marina, a great place to stretch. Tons of shops, food and drink and it is all camera worthy.

The second leg offers two options - back the way you came and jump back on 17 to the ferry that offers portage over to Jacksonville and A1A which you can take all the way to St. Augustine or go back on 200 to I95 South to 295 EB to Atlantic Blvd. Adamec HD is two blocks West on Atlantic if you need a pit stop or collect chips. Otherwise take a left on Atlantic and head East until you meet up with A1A and roll South all the way to St. Augustine.

When you pass the Castillo De San Marcos or as I refer to it the Spanish Pentagon you are approaching the Bridge of Lions. Turn left and cross the bridge (a two lane draw bridge which can give big V Twins heck in mid summer traffic)and you are on Anastasia Island. This road will keep you on the coast and take you to Daytona Beach and beyond. Take a left at he bridge of Lions and you are King Street. Take a hard look over your left shoulder and you are looking at the VFW. Its a great place to park the scoot for a bit and have a cold drink and enjoy the scenery. Numerous shops and restaurant's are in the immediate area.

Yes, there is a HD clothing outlet in the main shopping area. Don't forget to tour the Castillo and exchange your iron horse for a horse drawn carriage or one of the train trolleys to get acquainted with the area. There are also many beach condos for rent as well as B and B's and all the brand name hotels. If its a nice day and you want to ride then have some lunch and head out across the bridge and scoot down to Daytona.

You can do this base trip in 4-6 hours or spend a night in St. Augustine or Daytona. Bruce Rossmeyers HD is on I95 just North of Daytona. It is loaded with bikes, parts and great advice. JP Cycle is just around the corner. If you want great ideas on how to customize your bike then check out their display bikes..I wish I could own one. If you haven't been in the area of Daytona HD then be ready for any number of shops that cater to the biker and the bike. It is a must see and visit while in Daytona. Its also home of Bike Week and Biketober Fest.

I hope you enjoy the trip. Just be ready for the 4 wheeler drivers down here. They have a tenancy to drive like they are on the speedway and drafting is a right and a religion! AIA is a better place to cruise than I95. Any of the shops I mentioned are close to you anywhere on this route and are quick to help if and when needed.

The photo I added is a donut shop. We rewarded ourselves with donuts and coffee as desert each night. Surprisingly we always seemed to finish each days ride in sight of an apple fritter. I lost 6 lbs on that trip. This route was day one of a 6 day that saw us to Tampa and up to Charleston. I don't recommend it but there may be some science to it that eludes me. Maybe it was the Zen-like effect the confection has on my brain that melted away the fat like so much stress. Look out Jarred...Subway make way for the chocolate crème!
