This is a fabulous day trip from Napa through wine country, rural mountains, canyons, farmlands, lakes and rivers. All roads are in good to super condition. Weekend traffic can slow down the pace, but even so there's usually not much of it and the scenery is great anyway! I try to go on weekdays. Along the route are numerous wineries, the landmark Hubcap Ranch, funky restaurants, a large casino, and the Monticello Dam, among other interesting sites. In the canyons be alert for traffic, debris in the form of rocks, gravel, pinecones, branches, dead animals, deer and wet pavement occassionally.
