Sitting pretty much all by itself on the southern edge of the Gila Indian Reservation is a large adobe building known as Casa Grande.

The Website is http://www.nps.gov/cagr/.
This makes for a nice day ride if you are looking for a destination without much hard riding from Phoenix.
The site is fascinating for history buffs and really provides a sense of history for the Sonora desert region.
From Phoenix you could take I-10 East, take exit 185, turn left then right on 387 and be there in no time, or take the route shown above. if you do, you'll be rewarded with some interesting farm scenery, with San tan peak looming off your left shoulder for most of the trip.
If you want to continue on back roads, when you are done, follow the signs to Florence and then north the the Florence Junction and back into Phoenix on Highway 60.
