You can ride out of Calyton for days, just pick a direction or road and you are guaranteed a good day. Use the Old Clayton Inn as a base, cheap clean rooms and they have a restaurant and lounge on site. There is another pub and restaurant within a block down main street.
As you tarvel south on Old Hwy. 441, you get a feeling what it was like up here before the new US 441. After you pass thru Tiger(Tiger Store has best hambugers in Ga.), you will see Country Market on the right, it is worth the stop.
Passing thru Lakemont and you will begin a slow portion of the route, not because of traffic, just because it is a narrow stretch of asphalt that borders the lake with sight restrictions. When you get to the Lake Rabun Lodge, you need to stop and check out the place that was built in 1922 and still open, also has it's own restaurant and lounge, although a bit pricier than Old Clayton Inn.
Most all of the waterfront property you are passing on the different lakes are owned/controlled be Georgia Power. Yes, even those with multi-million dollar homes on them, they lease the land!
Turning right on Ga. 197 and you have a nice smooth asphalt run of twisties!
After you turn onto US 76, watch for the bridge over Lake Burton, there is a pull off just before the bridge for an overlook.
Charlie Mountain Road is a nice rural ride. Bridge Creek Road brings you into the back side of Tiger to the main intersection, remember Tiger Store? That hamburger is on the left.
The rest of the route will take you past Oinkers BBQ, I eat there everytime I'm in town, Wal-Mart and into town, so you will know where to get everything you might need.
