Collegiate Peaks and the Top of the RockiesSalida, CO to Aspen, CO for lunch and back to Salida. This ride combines two Colorado Scenic Byways. 175 miles round trip passing Colorado's two highest peaks, Mount Elbert (14,433 feet) and Mount Massive (14,421 feet). Hwy 82 passes Twin Lakes and crosses the Continental Divide at Independence Pass and features 3 hairpin switchbacks reaching 12,095 feet. The long descent into the Roaring Fork Valley leads to Aspen. Lunch at Hickory House Ribs. Retrace the route back to Salida. 4.5 hours riding time. Allow for lunch, shopping, and sightseeing and you've got an 8 hour day.
