Virginia City is our favorite destination for a short, but fun ride. We go 2 or 3 times a month. We love the very twisty Geiger Grade that leads to Virginia City. If you are lucky you can see the wild horses near the Virginia Foothills. Walk along the boardwalk and stop in the saloons to enjoy a 'Step Back in Time'.The crew of Ghost Adventures are depicted on a three-week ghost-hunting expedition to historic mining towns of Nevada, including Virginia City and nearby Gold Hill, where they investigate the Silver Queen Hotel, the Old Washoe Club, the Virginia City Cemetery, and a cabin near the Yellow Jacket Mine. Copy and paste link in your browser to view: http://youtu.be/Mna25hnfIHMWashoe Lake State Park is a scenic desert lake at the base of Mount Rose. A drive around the lake is always nice. Take the Franktown Ranches Road on the west side of Highway 395 for a look at some multi-million dollar mansions and beautiful ranches.Six Mile Canyon is a beautiful ride when the leaves are turning gold. The cottonwood trees line the small creek in the canyon. This canyon has some of the prettiest desert scenery.Genoa is Nevada's first recorded settlement just outside of Minden, Nevada. Visit the Mormon Station Park and Nevada's oldest bar (very old and rustic).

This can be a great trip, so long as you include Dayton as a major stop. Genoa is indeed Nevada's oldest TOWN (1st town government), but it is NOT its oldest settlement. That distinction belongs to Dayton, as verified by pioneer diaries of the time. (For confirmation by Nevada's State Historic Preservation Officer go to the Online Nevada Encyclopedia at www.onlinenevada.org and read the article on Dayton.) Dayton has lots of old buildings, many events, and an active preservation group---the Historical Society of Dayton Valley. For more info go to the HSDV webpage at www.daytonnvhistory.org.

The best of the best. These folks have ridden and shared more roads than any other ORJ member this month.
