This is a very rural ride through State forests, past farms and through several small towns. You'll also ride past a great swimming hole on the beautiful Santa Fe River. After you check out the Withlachoochee River in Dunnellon, ride west on 40, then north on County Road 337 through the Goethe State Forest. The forest has lots of hiking trails and places to stop. At Bronson, go west on US 27 for a few miles, then north on 339 to US 129. Continue north on 129 until you get to the bridge over the Santa Fe River. Turn left after the bridge and follow the road down to Sandy Point. Sandy Point is a popular campground, boat ramp, swimming hole and restaurant directly on the Santa Fe River. The river is wooded, clear and cold - a great spot to take a break.Continue north on 129 then west on US 27 through the little towns of Branford and Mayo. Sisters Barbeque in downtown Mayo is a good spot for lunch. Turn north on 251 or 53 to I-10. Go west one exit and get off on Highway 14 south and continue south until you get to Highway 158 or Sundown Creek Road. This may be the most scenic farm road in the whole state. It's really a treat to ride. When this road ends at 221, go north to US 90 and ride to Monticello to finish the run. Monticello has an old courthouse right in the center of town. Ride around it a couple of times. There's also several small cafe's nearby.
