This trip was a series of day-trip sorties in Death Valley, CA from Furnace Creek Ranch and Stovepipe Wells, with a side trip to Kernville. You can't go wrong to visit Death Valley in March. Bring your gear with you, it the course of a riding day you'll ascend to around 6,000 feet, and, if you visit Badwater, you'll be at 282 feet below sea level. The temperature range in March can get warm enough to just have a tank top on under your jacket to cold enough for an electric vest. If you are on a dual sport, try the Wildrose highway to the charcoal kilns - there's about half a mile of gravel one way, but the 'road' is straight - this dirt novice did okay. If you are on a street bike withlittle clearance, stay off this road. If you are on a street bike and you like technical twisties, Highway 155 may give you enough to keep you happy for quite a while. You'll ascend and descent about 2,000 feet on either side of the pass in a series of hairpins. Honestly, I won't ride this road for a while, but I'm glad to have done it once. And, wait until the snow has completely melted - the sand on the road was quite a challenge.
