Starting out in Dobbin, at the historic Hoffarts general store (RIP), you will go through some great twisty backroads that will keep you at a pretty nice speed. Be careful, stay on the right while cresting hills. there are many duallys in this area, who have no problem driving in the middle of the road over hills. You will come up to Montgomery after you complete the nice S curve, so watch your speed.[note- the texaco at the 105/149 intersection is somewhat of a biker hangout. If you meet someone there, tell them about the sweet backroads to dobbin. I never see anyone out there] Montgomery is a speed trap paradise along 105, which you will cross. Before crossing, you might take note that the police station is to your left, wave to any officers you see, and hope that they dont follow you down 1097. OK, you have just now crossed 105, and are driving behind cedar brake park. Now, just enjoy some of the old houses of Montgomery, as you make your way to 149, headed north. You will only stay on 149 for a minute or so, good thing, too- cause this section is patrolled and the speed limit is something like 35. 1097 is coming up on the right. Once you get to 1097, tuck in and hang on. The ride is mostly shortish straights with fast corners. Third gear will be happy. There are a couple of notable spots on 1097. One is the long bridge over lake conroe. My dad, a retired sheriff, told me that they used to use that bridge for high speed training, or some such thing. The bridge has a sag to the sections, and you will probably be tired of it pretty quickly. the other notable spot is a nice half circle around some trees. when you are coming from the other direction at night, you will see what looks like headlights through the brush. Its not oncoming traffic, it's somebody's gate lighting. Anyways, when you get out to Willis, have a burger and turn around. The ride is a whole different animal the other way around. I have really dominated the dobbin montgomery section of this route, much to the dismay of some farmers. At least they dont have to see my black and white miata anymore- just the red blur of my bike. The dobbin montgomery portion is perhaps my favorite drive of all time. it's very relaxing once you can get into the pace.
