This route takes you through some elevation and weather changes, be sure to dress accordingly. Hwy 19 and and 270 can be a bit windy but worth it to see the stark coastline. Be sure to stop in Hawi for a coffee or a meal and walk around the town a bit, it has a lot of character and charm. Hwy 270 ultimately takes you to Pololu Valley (gorgeous) and then ends. You will have to backtrack a couple miles to get on Hwy 250 which is an awesome, twisty road, probably the best riding on the island. On your way to Waipio Valley (stunning scenery) stop at Tex Drive-In in Honokaa for malasadas (Portugese donuts) and coffee, yum! Taking Hawaii Belt Road and Waikoloa Road back down to Waikoloa Beach Resort gives you a feel for the climate differences on the Big Island, plus it is pretty nice, open riding. This is written by the owner of a motorcycle rental shop, Big Island Motorcycle Co., located in the Kings' Shops in the Waikoloa Beach Resort an in effort to provide you with the best routes possible!

This is an AMAZING ride. It is still my all time favorite run. I did this ride back in 2006 in a rented H.D. Road king. The changes in scenery and climate from ocean side roads, to dense rain forest, to high desert, to the edge of cliffs, it had it all. Make sure to swing by Akaka Falls State Park and be sure to grab some shaved ice in the next little town. Its a MUST!!!

The best of the best. These folks have ridden and shared more roads than any other ORJ member this month.
