This ride will take you through the heart of the Okefenokee Swamp, past alligators, old homesteads from the pioneer days and the famous 'Folkston Funnel'.From the little south Georgia town of Fargo, take 177 into the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Stay on this road until it ends at Stephen Foster State Park. The park is a good place to view wildlife and rent boats to see the interior of the swamp.(There is no gas available in the refuge.)Go back to Fargo and ride southeast on 94 to St. George, then north on 23. Reenter the Nation Wildlife Refuge at the Suwannee Canal Recreation area. This entrance to the swamp has hiking paths, a motor trail past an old pioneer homestead and more boat rentals. There is also a small cafe at the marina.Continue north to Folkston and find the Folkston Funnel. Train buffs have built sort of a grandstand by the very busy tracks and gather to watch the trains go by.
