If you head west on NC Hwy 143 from Stecoah, at the end of this route, you can make it through Robbinsville and continue west on Hay 143, which is called the Cherohala Skyway. That will take you 55 miles back over into Tellico Plains, TN (Gas up in Robbinsville, no gas/food along Cherohala)

This is a great road to ride. Stop at Fontana Resort. Stop at Fontana Dam the largest dam in the eastern US. But continue on past the end of this route and continue on Hwy 28 for another 30 miles to Franklin, NC. That road is awesome. Sort of Dragon-esqe. tight twisties, 55 MPH legal speed limit. And then, get through Franklin and continue on 28 further south to Highlands. There is a stretch that is about 15 miles of super twisty and very scenic along the Cullasaga River Gorge, with a couple scenic spots to take pictures of fantastic falls. The town of Highlands is a great spot for a meal and the better half to window (or counter) shop. Point is NC. Hwy 28 can be taken a long way for a great ride. From Deal's Gap to Highlands is about a 2 hour ride for me. I often continue on 28 south through South Carolina and into Georgia for continued great riding.

Keep heading south. The best part of 28 is between 19 & Franklin.

Haven't ridden the road yet, but great looking photo - is it from the side of the road or did you have to hike back to it?
