This ride takes you through the little coastal towns of Horseshoe Beach, Shired Island, Suwannee and Cedar Key. Starting in Cross City, go south on 351 all the way to the town of Horseshoe Beach. Backtrack on 351 and go south on 349. This takes you to Shired Island, which is the start of the Dixie Mainline. The Mainline is narrow dirt road the cuts through the heart of the Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge and some of the finest swamps and marshes left on the gulf coast of Florida. It's not a bad road, but if you don't like riding on dirt, backtrack on 349 to Cross City and pick up the rest of the ride at Old Town. The Mainline comes out on 349 near Suwannee. Go into Suwannee, then get back on 349 north to Old Town.Follow the map and go south on 345 and 347 along the east shore of the Suwannee River to the town of Cedar Key. There are many good restaurants and places to stop in Cedar Key. Take a little time and explore. Its a great old town with quite a past. When you leave Cedar Key, stay on 24 all the way to US 98. Turn south on 98 to Gulf Hammock and stop to check out the Train and the small creek that runs just behind it.
