After you get off Highway 10, before crossing the James River, on State route 156, stop to eat at the Dockside Resturante for a great view of the James River, then travel along Highway 5 to Williamsburg for one of the most scenic reads in Virginia passing many former US president's homes and other plantations as well, all are open for touring. Nice day out. The Colonial Parkways at Jamestown settlement drives along the James River, and please take the one way road around the Jamestown island for a breathtaking drive at about 20 mph. I saw an American Bald Eagle soaring,,, Awesome. The Interstate back to Chesapeake is not a thrill, but if you have time at Jamestown, take the free River Ferry across the river to Surry and take Highway 10 back home thru Smithfield VA. Stop for ice cream in old town Smithfield where you step back into time!
