This is one of my wife favorit ride. For a change we took the 'Lake Express' from Milwaukee WI to Muskegon MI a fest ride over Lake Michigan (21/2 hours).North of Travers City is HWY 119 'The Tunnel of Trees' going north to I-75 and the 5mil. long Mackinac bridge a great place to see and ride. South on Rd. 183 in Fayette UP. is 'Sherry's' restaurant with a great fish dinner. Going south WI. back home thru Green Bay, Oshkosh, Fond du Lac and Madison. Why we call this ride 'The Cherry Pie Ride', because in MI. is the best cherry pie so on Rd.31 at 'The Cherry Hut' restaurant we found the best cherry pie!!!

I just happened to finish this ride this week without aid of this article and I must agree that it is a very good ride. There are more interesting ways to get to Madison, WI than US Route 12 but it does the trick. Also be aware that the ferry ride between Muskegon and Milwaukee is a bit pricey at $150 per person/bike combination. Further, try to make a reservation on the ferry (www.lake-express.com). I was keeping a very loose schedule and just showed up. Fortunately I was taken on as a "standby" but others were not so lucky.
There is a lot of contrast in the ride too since you are basically in the farmland of IL and WI, the wilderness of the MI upper peninsula, and the summer tourist towns of the MI lower peninsula.

The best of the best. These folks have ridden and shared more roads than any other ORJ member this month.
