SR163 down crowleys ridge gives you a sense of being in some foothills with the nice sweeping curves and moderate elevation changes, but once you get on US70 it really flattens out. this is serious farm country. more tractors than cars. i enjoyed watchin the crop dusting planes buzzin around. them boys know how to fly. lots of bayous and creeks. then eveything changes when you get west of I-30. there you start to get into the ouachita mountains. that was my destination for some quartz crystal mining. had some pretty good luck too. gulpha gorge campground in hot springs national park was real nice and convienent to town as well. stayed there 2 nights then went the mountain to ron coleman's mine where i camped and mined for 5 days most every road i traveled was in good shape and excellent scenery.
