This is a trip I've wanted to take for several years. I took two weeks off of work and took off in the 3rd week of September for Maine. We left on a Sunday at around 11AM and made our way to I90 heading east trying to get as close to Buffalo NY as possible on the first day.

On day 2 we left and continued on I90 to 365 and then to 25 north thru tha Adirondack Mountains to 30 north to Malone, New York. This was a very nice ride with the colors of the trees beginning to change. Very nice biking roads.

On day 3 we left Malone, New York heading toward South Hero, Vermont to Lunenburg, Vermont. This route takes you very near the Canada boarder and the northern end of Lake Champlain in the U.S. This ride takes you down a finger of land that basically splits Lake Champlain heading south. You get very nice views of the lake at several spots on this route on both the left and right. We headed toward Lunenburg, Vermont then across New Hampshire on route 2 and 16 north to Willons Mills, Maine. We stayed on route 16 toward N. Anson and then to Skowhegan, Maine. This entire route is thru the heart of the mountains of Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. Very nice motorcycle roads and views. Be careful of wildlife including bear, deer and moose.

On day 4 we left Skowhegan, Maine and headed toward Bar Harbor. While in Bar Harbor we rode the park loop road several times. Picture perfect views are plentiful on this road with mountain and ocean views. We stayed in Trenton and enjoyed the island for a couple of days.

On day 6 we left Bar Harbor and headed north on Route 1. We stopped by Schoodic on the other side of Frenchmans bay. We then headed toward Lubec staying on route 1. We stayed on route 1 all the way to Madawaka, Maine. All of route 1 from Bar Harbor to Madawaska is a very nice ride.

On day 7 we went to the four corners park in Madawaska and then headed south on route 11 all the way to Millinocket. The trees were in full color at this point. We skirted Baxter state park but did not get to go there on this trip. Maybe next time. Again, watch out for deer and moose.

From here we basically retraced our path back to Northern Indiana.

Taking this trip was something I've wanted to do for several years and I'm glad I did. The weather was exceptional for this time of year with no rain the entire ride and two days with temps in the mid 70's in northern Maine. If you like mountains, lakes, ocean and crashing surf then this is a trip you will want to consider taking at some point. I've been to the northern coast of Maine several times and always wanted to go there on my bike and glad I finally got the chance to do so.
