This is a very nice ride for beach lovers. You have to take US1 up to South Daytona or furher if you don't want to deal with stop and go beach traffic, but we started at 8:00 a.m. on a Saturday morning so it wasn't very bad at all. Once you get up past Daytona and into Flagler Beach, the ocean is right beside you on the road. There are plenty of little pull-offs where you can stop and admire the surf. There is also a great little breakfast restaurant called 'Friend's' in Flagler beach, when you reach the main intersection, take a left then another left. It is directly across from the Flagler Beach police department. The scenery of houses improves as you get into St. Augustine and Pontre Vedre Beach, there is a very long strip of A1A that is surrounded by dunes on both sides and is very secluded, very nice for wildlife scenes. There are plenty of gas stations along the way so you never really have to worry about how much farther you can make it.My favorite aspect is taking the Mayport Ferry across A1A into Fernadina Beach. It's a nice break from the ride itself. It took us 5 hours from Merritt Island to Harts Road in Yulee and that was stopping once for breakfast and a couple of times for gas and potty breaks. If you spend the night up there, it is only 12 miles into Kingsland Georgia. The ride home only took 3.5 hours mainly because it was cold over Easter weekend down here and we wanted to get back in the daylight. We left Yulee at 2:30 and got home around 6:00. If you take 9A over to US1, there is an awesome bridge to cross, and even being scared of heights I couldn't help but admire the scenery.
