The long way to Smith Lake. A good 3 hour ride, lots of twisties and straights, well maintained single lane roads. The route starts at the Mt Olive Exit #272 and ends at Dodge City at the intersection of Rt 69. From there, you have a choice to turn right on 69 to take the same route home, or jump on I-65 to fast-leg it in 36 minutes back to Birmingham. The Mt. Olive Rd stretch near the coal mines is spectacular! Many sweepers, twisties and bridges.
