Your ride begins in Clayton, GA located in NE Georgia on US441. There are two traffic lights in Clayton, you will want to head east from the north light to reach Warwoman Road. Warwoman Road is a twistie road and challenging in certain sections. The road terminates at NC Highway 28 where you encounter a tight uphill left turn. This section of 28 runs uphill and has nice curves with tree canopy cover most of the way. Your first stop will be in the upscale mountain town of Highlands, NC. Stop here and visit the shops and restaurants. Leaving Highlands you will continue north on 28 for 3 miles. On your right is Bridal Veil Falls. The old section of 28 is still intact but no longer used as the throughfair road and it allows you to ride under the waterfalls! Continuing north on 28 you will pass through Franklin, NC. 1/2 mile north of Main Street on your left is the Sunset Cafe a great place to eat. This next section of 28 is my favorite. It is loaded with twisties and has only modest chenges in elevation. The locals seem to know that motorcycles travel a bit faster that the 4 wheel transports and yeild right-of-way.....out of Stater's seem to be unaware of this!
At the end of this section you will reach a stop sign where you will turn left for a short ride on US19 but in a short 3 miles you will "y" to the right and contine north on 28. This section is 4 lane but not for long. The road narrows to 2 way traffic and that's where the fun begins! This section is loaded with twisties and nice pull offs with great views. Near the northerly end of this section you will ride along the shoreline of Fontana Lake and pass by the resort area of Fontana Village. The end of this ride terminates at US129. On your right is the Deal's Gap store where you can purchase your Dragon tee shirt and swap lies with fellow riders. This is the base of the infamous "Dragon"....11 miles of 318 curves! Have fun. -JEP-
