Great little weekender to visit the Lake of the Ozarks from southeast Nebraska and back. I like to turn at Humboldt, NE and take 105 south to 8 because it is a great little trek with a curve coming out of town and high scenic views. 8 is fairly plain, but still nice. Once you cross at Rulo, I highly recommend the road to Forrest City instead of going straight to interstate. It hugs the bluff and has several areas where the trees canopy the road. Make sure you are ready for the last paved road north as the road goes to gravel before making it to Amazonia. The weird route to St Joe and back north was the navigator's fault (me). We went to Lexington and took 24 since it was supposed to be a "motorcyle road". Not seeing it. Maybe bc of the orchards? I'd rather have gone deeper into Missouri to get the winding, hilly and forested areas closer to Boonville. Accidentally went down M road at Sedalia and it was a great mistake. Beautiful winding road with lots of curves. So fun. Had to go through KS due to rain, and it turned out great. 54 out of the lake area is an amazing road with roller coaster hills, trees, hwys carved from the rocky hillsides, etc. You always seemed to come out of a sweet hilly curve into a beautiful valley of hay fields and pastures. 75 north to NE was more of a get home before dark. Not much to see there. Left Friday and came back Sunday to give us a night and day to mess around in the lake area. Overall about 875 miles with farting around mileage added.
