Newport harbor viewed passing by Fort Adams.

This is a fun ride that can be done in a day or made into an over night trip if you wish to indulge the night life in Newport. Which can be quite interesting. Many boats, many restaurants, shops and of course bars.
The ride begins in Middleboro at Rt 28 & Rt 105. A Dunkin Donuts to meet. Head out Rt 105 to Rt 79. Go left on Water St and left again on Slab Bridge Rd. This will turn to Bullock Rd then to High Hill Rd as you pass through townships. Go right on Faunce Corner Rd follow straight until you get to Rt 6. Go right on Rt 6 until you get to Rt 177 on left. Follow to Rt 77 go right follow the water front to Rt 24. This pic was taken on the return from Newport.

Rt 24 is highway but there is no other way to get across the water. Take Rt 114 , W Main St which will turn to Broadway. Right on Park & left on Thames will lead you to America Cup Ave - Downtown. Parking in town can be tricky, some sidewalk areas located next to payed parking are safe, 4-6 bikes max. Ask the pay parking attendants where you can park for free.

Follow through the center of town and go right on Wellington Ave. Which will have several names in a short distance of asphalt passing by Fort Adams. They hold jazz festivals there it a neat place.Follow Harrison Ave and go right on Castle Hill Ave A 90 degree turn to the left brings you to Ocean Ave through Brenton Point State Park. This is very pretty and almost alway crowded. Many go there to fly exoctic kites, they fill the sky. There are many spots one can stop on Ocean Ave with great views and less people.

Ocean drive will dump you on Bellevue Dr ' land of the mansions.' Many are open to the public even though I have never been in one. Its hard to believe families lived in these structures there that big. Very old money I guess. At the end of Bellevue go left and it will bring you back to the center of Newport to Broadway St. Follow the same routes back. The map looks like you could take 138 back to Rt 24 for some different scenery. Maybe on my next trip I will try that route.

When you get back to Bullock Rd in Freetown go right on Memorial Dr. A really cool Veterans Park with a real attack helicopter, well worth the stop. Go right on Chace Rd. until you see a Dunkin Donuts on your left. Go straight through the four way intersection on Mason Rd. Go left on Rt 18 and right on Mortin Rd by the radio tower. Left on Braily Hill Rd through the lakes. Right on Long Point Rd down the causeway and left on Marion Rd. Right on Cherry St and left on Rt 28 and you are back at the starting point.

Below is to open end of the harbor. Note the cruise ship left of the bikes
