This was such a beautiful ride once you get past the first 30 min on Rt 50. Nothing but country roads, farmland, mountains, vineyards, old and historic towns (many of which go by 'village'). There are many parks along the way and battlefield grounds to visit (Bull Run) and lots of small old towns with cool pubs/taverns to take a lunch break in.I wound up eating at an English style pub called the Hunter's Head Tavern in Upperville, right on 50/John S Mosby Hwy. Sat at the bar talking to the bartender for about an hour and a half, and when he gave me my check he had not only not charged me for the two beers I had gotten (about $10) but also gave me an employee discount. THIS is exactly the kind of thing you can only experience out in these small old towns where everyone is friendly and not in a rush, like where I now live in Falls Church, just outside of DC.For someone who is quickly learning that the city/urban habitat is far too rude/impatient/fast paced for them, this trip was exactly what I needed. Made me feel at home again, better in fact, and has been the best day I've had in a very long time.It took me exactly 6 hours round trip, including lunch and the various stops to take photos along the way. I would definitely suggest this trip to anyone in the DC area, especially the Virginia side; you won't regret it...
