Starting from eastern end near Wauchope, you wind through villages and small farms. Once you pass through Long Flat, the traffic drops off and a series of sweeping bends begin. The lower part of the climb up the mountain has a very good asphalt surface, but some tight corners. Further up the mountain, the quality of the surface drops away and corners can be tricky, especially if there has been recent rain and there are sticks or gravel on the surface. Heading out of the National Park, the scenery opens up into grazing land and the corners progressively less demanding, with the last 40km or so into Walcha predominantly straight. This road regularly tops polls of Australia's best bike roads so expect to see a range of tourers and boy racers along its length. Limited services along the 175 km length, but there is a pub at Long Flat and a cafe at Gingers Creek. Fuel available at Wauchope and Walcha
