This is a different kind of weekend getaway. This is an open road, wind inyour face blowin your cares away, lost in your imagination big sky kinda ride. Lots of open plains, gentle rolling hills giving way to Texas canyon lands with majestic red rock formations and outcroppings. Make it a point to visit Palo Duro Canyon website and arrange to see the production of 'TEXAS' in the outdoor ampitheatre, Other shows are at various times of the year, but 'TEXAS' is in the summer months. Nearby is the Aabates Flint Quarry state park where you can see where and how local indians found shaped and used flint for tools and weapons. Often times you can find actual arrowheads or partials under foot. Dont take any from the park though! (ILLEGAL) Take some hiking shoes too!. Visit Amarillo and see the Famous Cadillac Ranch on part of Route 66 and Take home some cool souveniers like a patch or pin for your riding gear. Watch the weather in advance whenever you go, it can change abruptly but is usually well predicted on Pack for weather extreems for the season. Also watch for high winds on occasions. Don't let the weather warnings I've given dissuade you, its only to help you prepare. There is alot of history in the area both recent and prehistoric, so web search it and see what intrests you the most. I dare you to try to eat the 72oz. steak at the Big Texan Restauraunt!(If you do in their alloted time, its free!)Enjoy your rides and keep safe!
