The ride is a relatively easy one and there are lots of opportunities to go off in different directions within the reservation. Hayward is an interesting town and tends to draw a lot of tourists during the summer so be aware of that. When going across on the northern side of the route you will be going through a fairly long stretch that has a significant Elk herd in residence so be very observant, especially near dawn or dusk. I know guys who have actually seen a part of the herd just standing on the road. I also know one guy who actually saw two bulls testing each other in the middle of the road. I do NOT suggest riding that stretch after dark. I've seen more than one Elk a few feet off the road feeding on the grass there. They are like Moose in that their head is high enough when standing that your headlight may not catch the reflection of the eyes. Lots of water to see if you decide to take an excursion off of the route described but I strongly suggest a GPS if you do that since there are a great many roads within the reservation that curve or dead-end at a T intersection and it's easy to get turned around. You're also likely to see some deer on the road. Some tight curves as well when/if you do this (it's hard to resist the temptation).
