I started this short ride at 8am and the temperatur in Phoenix was over 90 degrees. Once you climb a 6 mile hill on I-17, North of Black Cayon City the temperatur will drop 20 degrees or more. Be ready for hot weather and cold weather on the same trip. Exit I-17 and go west on route 69 towards Prescott. Watch your speed as there are a lot of Arizona DPS that patrol that highway. Unless you have a reason to go into Prescott I would take the bypass. There are a lot less stop lights and the traffic is a lot lighter. Exit from the Bypass and go North on route 89 towards Ashfork. (Not route 89A). Once North of Chino Valley traffic really lightens up and you start heading into the mountains of northern Arizona. This is where the trip gets good as you will be heading towards the Kaibab National Forest. Once you get to Ashfork go West on I-40 about 7 miles and Exit on to route US66. Not to worry its marked real well. It two lane road from there on. On old 66 there are lot bikers that ride this route. I didn't take a lot of pictures on this trip, but the two that I post here were take on US66 between Ashfork and Seligman. By the time I got to Seligman it was lunch time, so I stoped there for about an hour. You might want to take a little longer as there is a lot to see in Seligman. Back on the road there is very little traffic and lot to see, take your camera with. I got to Kingman at 2:30pm and stoped at the Route 66 Museum. Lots to learn there. I left there at 3:30pm and started heading back to Phoenix. Once you get on US 93 be very careful. A lot of people use this route to travel from Phoenix to Las Vegas and they are in a big hurry, so watch your self. I got back home at 8pm. Total it was 428 miles. If you have a little more time you might want to take a second day on this ride. I hope you enjoy this route as much as I did.
