Mid Spring or Mid Fall is best time to do this. Red & I did this in June of 2008. Not too cold or too hot, rain is another story. Early part of trip was covering old familar roads until we turned north out of West Virginia. From there until we got back into MO it was all new roads. Had to to see the great honeymoon falls and then more of Lake Erie. Good roads, friendly people all the way to Lake Placid. Stayed two nights at Shamrock Motel on Long Lake, very nice and not too expensive. Toured all the Olympic sites and all the roads in the Adirondack Mtns in the area. Crossed over to Vermont, got pictures of Moose warning signs and Robert Frost's favorite rustic haunts in the Green Mtns. When we had the time we stayed on 2 lane roads and soaked up the local flavor. When you travel on a motorcycle, seems like you meet the nicest people, taste the best food and appreciate God's creation the most. Take plenty of bug spray-the knats will really eat on you when you stop to take pictures in the Adirondack Mtns around the lakes but the pictures will make up for it.
