You said you wanted to ride through the Catskills...well..this is my home and just follow my lead.
You can make this circuit a loop by just connecting the ends from Rt 212 back to Rt 28.

This ride has it all. Twisties, long corners, all paved roads, mountain views, valley views, streams, lakes, great quaint restaurants and pubs, historic sights, fantastic charming towns, the great Kaaterskill Falls, steeps, oh...did I say twistie...I think I did.

I do this as a circle route and live in Hunter, NY - if we're stopping to enjoy the scenery and stop for lunch...we reserve the whole afternoon. I've done it by myself with some good hard riding and have completed it in about 3 hours.

One tip - when in Palenville on Rt 23 - definitely take North Lake Road - go two miles and look for Laurel Road on your right. Go down Laurel Road 200 yards till the dead end and park where the others are parked. Walk down the wide path )about 5 minutes)...you'll now come to the highest tiered waterfall in NY State...Kaaterskill Falls. Unbelieveably beautiful and what a view.

The towns of Dehli, Arkville, Hunter, Phoenecia, Woodstock, Tannersville...they're all great little towns.

One last tip...Plattecove Road...wow...slow down.

Enjoy the ride.

Hey,new to this site here, I just discovered it! I ride up from the Bronx all the time and cruise around these roads all the time. I'm looking to find as many new suggested rides as I can. Thanks for the tip about the quick 5 minute walk to Kaaterskill falls!

I come up from Yonkers, NY!!! ...Tool around "up there" on weekends (can't get up early for work - but can get up at 6:00 am to ride)... Ha!

Must stops: The Last Chance Cheese/Antique Shop in Tannersville (www.lastchanceonline.com) -- just don't overdue the 300-beer selection...

Also, Bear Creek Crossing (corner of Route 214 and Route 23A) -- Golf Range, Horseback Riding, Paintball!!! (not for me on the bike), outdoor grill/bar, great sights all the way up to Hunter Mountain slopes, great atmosphere and super-cool owner (Frankie from Brooklyn - yeah, NY!) - and the ride is sweet!!!

I ride these roads all the time on both a sport bike and a Harley. Great ride, great scenery, twisties, straights, no heavy traffic, plenty of places for lunch, etc. Do it!!
