My co-worker and I had a choice. Take a day of vacation or loose time. We decided what a good time for a bike trip! The day we decided to go was a Wednesday. Craig, my co-worker and a rider included in my other post on this site suggested I come up with a route. I did just that. I called it a Ride for Fried Greens Tomatoes. A resturant in Juliette, Ga The Whistle Stop Cafe' serves up fried green tomatoes. And some other great tasting foods. This is the location from which the movie Fried Green Tomatoes was filmed. Craig and I met in Sylvania, Ga about 8a.m. to start the ride. The weather didn't fulfill the forcasters predication. Supposed to be partly cloudy and 55-58 degrees. It was full overcast and 51 degrees. Oh well. Onward we went. One of the things about bike riding in Georgia, for the most part all the state hiways are in good to very good condition. Towns are spaced 15 to 30 miles apart. These make for great cruising!! Between Swainsboro and Wrightsville I noticed that I should have dressed a little warmer. The damp air was getting to me through my leathers. We decided to stop in Wrightsville for a break. We found a Dairy Queen that was opened for breakfast. When we entered, we found the towns 'breakfast Club' inside. A group of men from 55 years old up all having coffee. We joined them for coffee. Us showing up gave them a treat. Many of these guys were motorcycle riders from long years ago. They told us stories for 45 minutes. It was a great visit. We warmed up and the weather started lifting as we geared up to leave. We pulled into the city of Gordon and stopped for fuel and a little break. Time to part with that coffee. While here my cell rang. It was my daughter whom is attending UGA. She was letting me know she was on spring break. Also that she and friends were enroute to Savannah to go to the Saint Patricks Day festival. We talked a bit and said our good byes. Craig and I continued to Juliette arriving at 12:15p.m. We ordered our fried green tomatoes and meals. It all was fresh cooked and hot when it came out. Country fried steak, okra, green bean, mashed tators and gravy!!! Are ya hungry now??? After lunch we began to gear up for the return trip. Craig said, it's been awhile since you've seen your daughter right? I answered yea about 3 months. He said heck let's ride to Savannah and see if we can catch up to her. We can take them out for supper. I replied... let's ride!! I called her and told her of our plan. She said come on but, she was with these friends and went where they went. I told her I'd call her from Savannah. Craig and I left the Whistle Stop at 1:40p.m. headed over to Macon, got on I-75 south to I-16 east. At 4:55 I called my Daughter from downtown Savannah. Long story short, I never caught up to her. We did talk about 5 times on the cell. She was having fun. Craig and I did also. There were many sights to see along Riverstreet and in City Market on this Saint Patrick Day eve!!!! We left Savannah about 10:00p.m. arriving at our homes about 11:15p.m. After a little over 15 hours and 450 plus miles on the road, we had a full day of vacation!!! All of this in the middle of the week. Let's go again!
