Really a great ride with a couple of twisty additions. On SR 52,when you reach San Antonio, take Curley Rd. north(a right turn -well marked- in the middle of town and well known
to bikers in the area) continue north on Curley Rd. and it turns into Jessamine Rd. both roads have great sweeps, hills and valleys throughout. When it dead ends,go right on Hwy 41 until you reach Hwy 575 and go left/north (very short distance and you can't miss it. Follow 575 as it twists and turns for quite a distance until it runs into Hwy 50, Now go right/east on 50 and you are back on track with this published route. This may sound a bit complicated but it is not and I guarantee you will be really glad you added this to your trip. Once we arrived to the St. Johns River area we spent the night at the Astor Marina right on the river and it was super. All in All a great ride!!

This ride to and from Daytona is the best part of Bike Week and Biketoberfest.
I can make it in 2 1/2 hours on the interstate, or 8 hours this way with my my wife... Bars, potty breaks, bars, potty breaks, resturants and bars!
Don't be in a rush. Take a day for the ride! Daytona will still be there... Then ride the Loop!

I have rode a good bit of this route from US 27 east. Nice smooth for the most part. In 2011 around Mt Dora and a couple other towns was construction and a couple detours. The ride up thru the National Forrest is relaxing.

This is as good as any route there is from Tampa. Blackwater Inn is a good place to stop and eat on Hwy. 40 where you cross the St. Johns River.
