This ride is a nice ride for an afternoon get away. Riding out to Cliffside has some good sweeping curves along some rolling hills in the country. Cliffside is a town that was known for his fabric mills of the past. Time has left this little town past it by as you will see passing the closed down mills. Heading south down 221A the hills get a little larger along this part of the route ending up at SC11. There is some more history here with the Civil War Battlefield and memorial here. Head west along SC 11 into Chesnee. SC. Past through town turning ride on to Henderson Road, this road will give you some nice sweeping turns and a few tight ones to keep you on your toes. Route 221 will give a rest, fairly straight with nice rolling hills all the way to Rutherfordton, NC. Once your in Rutherfordton you will pick up route 64/74A west, this is where the road gets more interesting. The closer you get to Lake Lure the tighter the road gets. This road will give you some nice twisters to some very twisty turns. This road has some great views of Lake Lure when you have time to take a look off the road. Once you get down to the park and beach area of the lake, you can get some good food in that area or just hang out with all the other bikers there.
You can continue west on 64/74A to Chimney Rock or go farther following 74A towards Asheville. 74A has some great elevation changes and some very twisty turns until you get closer to Asheville. This is where progress takes over and you end up with a four lane road to I-40.

I have lived in Rutherford County all my life and this has always been one of my favorite. The ride is beautiful and the road is full of twists and turns. If you plan on riding it though its better if you can do it on a weekday during the off season (less traffic). Enjoy
