This is a great ride! As always, I start in my home town of Elizabethan, TN. I jump onto hiway 19E, taking this road east to Roan Mount. which is about 25 miles from my home! Upon climbing the foothills of Roan Mountain, you will come to Road 143, which will take you up to Roan Mountain State Park. This is a wonderful state park, with swimming, tennis, camping, a lake, cabins, an ampatheater, gosh you name it, you'll find what your looking for here! Anytime except full blown winter is a good time to start this ride...spring gives you the rhododendrons, very beautiful, but the rest of the year is always wonderful with the trees filling out their wardrobes with all the color of green you can imagine! Then of course you have the fall roundup of colors as well! No matter when you go, you have the best of sights to keep you awed!Riding up past the state park will give you up to the pinnicle of the mountain, and access to the Appilation Walking Trail...you ought to do this for a few miles...it's really wild! Bring your own water...because once on the trail, you can find water from natural springs...drink at you own risk!Continueing down the south side of the Mountian, your gonna clash right into the North Caorlina state line! This part of NC is quite beautiful, and the roads are two lane twisters and sweeping bends. Follow this road down into Bakersville in NC. Here you can get gas, food, anything you like...take a breather and enjoy the fine citizens of Bakersville. I have always enjoyed myslef while here! Road 143 will run into 261 and then into road 226 at Bakersville...you will want to head into a westerly direction on 226 towards a small town called 'Loafers Glory.' Just a few business that cater to the rafters who ply the river there, and a couple of houses. But kinda cool place to take some photos...I mean, who names a town...Loafers Den?You stay on 226 till you come to road 107 in Limestone Cove...nice little twisties for ya just before you find 107. Once your on 107...it's a road that will give you the feeling your in Sherwood Forest, in some parts...I like this road. It will eventully take you to Erwin, where you can either jump on I-26 or find more roads to combine your adventure into an all day collection of wonderful country and county roads to ride on! I love this area, because the road never does have to end...it can go on forever, with the hills and the rivers, streams, and lakes...with wild life all around, and fields of plenty grown by the locals to feed us all. So much to see, so much to do...you'll just love riding here!
