Leaving Algoma, one ride thru dairy farms & orchards. leave from the shore of Lake Michigan. Riders can leave from green Bay, or the Fox valley, getting on US 41 north. North of Green Bay is some Super Slab, but it runs thru mostly forest. fall colors are pretty good. New road now bypasses Oconto & pestigo. Easy to get thru marinette and Menominee. Stop at michigan visitor's center just over the bridge in menominee to get a copy of 'Cruisin the UP'. Take M-35 north out of Menominee-it runs right along the shore of Lake Michigan. follow 35 into Escanaba, north thru Gladstone and Rapid River. Take US 2 east of Rapid River about 14 miles to Forest Rd. 13. Go north on 13. this is a remote road thru the trees, narrow. Places are rough, but there are sections of new pavement. About 20 miles north of US 2 is the Midway General Store. Making a stop here is like going back in time. Can get a burger, soda or ice cream cone.Junction with M-28 in town of Wetmore. Go west into Munising to rt. H-58 down town. Turn right onto H-58. Might want to gas up in Munising. Grab lunch at the Dog patch-a biker freindly eatery. Heading east and north on H-58 runs thru woods and is fairly straight the first 20 miles or so, then it starts to weave its way thru more open, sandy fields of ferns amid northern forest. There is only one cafe along the route-the Bear Trap Inn about 10 miles out of Munising. The laast 20 miles west of Grand Marais is new blacktop, completed on October 2010. it is one twist and turn after another with lots of ups and downs, also. You can sweep thru one and into the next for the entire 20 miles. There are a few stopsoffs where you can hike down to lake Superior. A great ride!!Once in grand marais, enjoy the scenery-a beautiful bay with a great sand beach. Very quaint small village. When I rode here, I had a beverage at a place on Main street, then reversed my route back to Munising. I got a campsite on Lake Superior in Munising at a great municipal campground about 3 miles west of town. This is a great day ride or better yet, a great weekend ride. ride north one day and return the second day. it should be a super-fantastic ride in the fall color season.

It was a very nice road. most of it was recently repaved. it goes through the National Pictured Rock Shoreline Park. There are some good overlooks with in the park. My wife and I saw an American Bald Eagle pearched on a tree limb at the Miner Castle rock formation overlook. if you go to Munising it is worth the time to take the boat tour of the Pictured Rock shoreline cruise. We road from Munising to Grand Marais. We also went to Marquette. that is a very nice rourte as well. Most of it follows the shore line of lake. Several overlooks as well on that route. Make your way over to White Fish Point where the Shipwreck museum is located. We stayed in Munising and took day trips from there. we were ther for a week. the Sunset by the bay motel was a nice place to stay. it is right on the water located in Munsing. the Miners water fall wass worth hiking back to as well. there are a lot of water falls to see and take pictures of. we went from Sept 12th thru the 17th of 2011. On the way back we also road the tunnel of trees in MI.
