We took this route to enjoy the fall color. Leaving from the Chicago area it is pretty open and straight. When you get past Dixon, it starts to give you some sweeps. Lots of the roads are truly country roads with very little traffic.

This ride takes you down the popular Stagecoach Tr into Galena. Galena not only is a beautiful area, but has a beautiful main st.

This ride will also take you thru New Diggings, WI. We did not have the opportunity to stop there, but I have heard the food is good and it is neat to see the few old buildings. It is a popular MC destination.

We were very surprised by how goregeous Iowa was. The views were truly amazing. Be cautious tho, the country roads were clearly patched and a bit bumpy.

We chose to stay the night in Dyersville, IA, and visited the Field of Dreams movie site the next day. It is only 4.7 miles away from the hotel we stayed at. Country Junction at Rt 20 and 136 was an excellent choice for dinner. Everything was homemade!

As you make your way back, you will find yourself going thru Galena again to get to Blackjack road. This was also worth the trip.

When you approach Savanna, IL, the trip takes you back to Iowa for a brief moment to enjoy the scenery as you cross the great Mississippi River. You will then cross back over to Illinois. Be sure to try Poopy's on 84 south of 52/64. It is a very popular MC destination that offers a restaurant (make sure to get a side of cheese sauce!), bar, tattoos, and accessories. I believe they even have a mechanic on site. On weekends, they have bands playing on the stage in back. There are also campsites available for free.

As you are returning home, hit Rt2, another popular MC road, that goes thru Castle Rock State Park.

We truly enjoyed this route. We did it with 1 overnight stay, but wished we would have spread it out a little bit longer to have more time to enjoy the sites. It does zig zag a bit, but that was only to hit some beautiful scenic roads - after all, it was about the journey, not the destination!
