Seneca Rocks, West Virginia
Variety is the spice of life, and that is exactly what you get on this ride. Straight highways to rolling hills to twisting mountain roads is what we encountered on this trip. There was some spectacular sightseeing to do along the way too.
This was a group ride. Half of the group met up west of Frederick, MD, then we met up with the rest of our fellow bikers in Front Royal, VA.
The ride from Front Royal over into West Virginia took us along Route 33. It started out with a nice gentle road in the country.
The sweeping curves appeared once we began to climb in elevation.
A view of the mountains seen as we rode through the valleys.
We rode in the middle of the pack...here's a view looking ahead.
And here's the rest of the gang riding behind us.
These are some of the sweeping curves we rode on.
This was an all day ride, so we stopped to have lunch here at Fox's Pizza.
Our destination was Seneca Rocks, and we finally arrived!
Seneca Rocks is a rather spectacular mountain thrusting up from the valley floor. It is a popular destination for rock climbers. If you would like more information, please go to http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/mnf/sp/senrcks_txt.html
We were able to squint and look really hard and actually see rock climbers (which look like little ants) climbing at the top of the rock. We were able to get a better view of them using the public telescope available on the gounds where we were.
Once we left Seneca Rocks, we headed to Strasburg, VA and then split off in different directions for the journey home. This is definitely a ride all of us will remember for some time to come.
See ya next time!!

My wife and I did this loop 5 years ago, we had a blast. Great mix of roads with plenty of scenery. I remember a small store at the base of Seneca Rocks, don't know the name, but it's a good place to stop and share your stories with other riders. I would like to do this trip again sometime. It's easily accomplished in a day.

The best of the best. These folks have ridden and shared more roads than any other ORJ member this month.
