I ride a 2001 Dr 650 and have taken it to Moab and commute on it regulary. I picked up the KLR in the pic and sold it to my bestfriend chad. Hes the guy standing over the Grey KLR.(Like the stickers? Get it?) Hes been wanting a bike for years and the stars lined up and the moon fell into place and the bike came available at a cheap price. He drove from Rapid City to pick up the bike the night before. We decided to take a ride before he had to head back to Rapid City . We started out from my house in Tyndall, SD. We headed towards the river to Springfield South Dakota . Once in Springfield keep heading South until you run out of road and take a peek at he Missouri. Youll see that its really silted in. It looks lie you can almost walk across. Once you are done with the view head west out of town (ask somone how to find the 'Botom Road' . Once you get pointd in the right direction youll be heading south. As you head south youll notice you are getting lower and lower and eventualy end up on a two track road with water on both sides. This area floods frequently and can get very very muddy. (ask locals if its traversible) This is a wonderful ride with spectacular views of the misssouri river and wildlife. It is not unusual to see 3 or four eagles, deer, lots of Cows and people in cars and fishing along the route. The pople are nice. Once you get through the Bottom road youll come up to the town of Running Water. Its an old town that was famouse for having a Ferry. The boat ramp area has a great plaque that tells the history of the area. Head through running water to the highway and you have an option of heading South and checking out the Sitting Bull Bridge and going over into nebraska or going north a bit and following the route. Keep heading west following the river. Its fun and fast . The gravel is loose though. If you get a chance go through Marty South Dakota and check out the Catholic Church. Its great with lots of really interesting carvings and beautiful stained glass. Just north outside of Marty there is a memorial comemorating the people who signed the treaty of 188? It is worth looking at.you can either keep heading west from Marty or head north up to Highway 50.Either way will take you to Pickstown. When you get to pickstown stop at the bait stor and have breakfast or lunch. The food and Icecream is great. That day we ate lunch and took a ride over the Fort Randall Dam and headed back in the rain. Heading home on Highway 46 is much much quicker but allot less fun being its all two lane highway.
