Make your way along I-10 to Sunrise Highway exit, take a stop on the large shoulder on the right before starting the trip. If you start in San Diego, ensure a full tank of gas before leaving Alpine. Groups in excess of twenty riders easily accomodated on the shoulder. Amazing mountain views throughout the trip, first half, vary little traffic, but be cautious around the corners as some campers may be making their ways to the camp grounds. Take a stop in the homely town of Jullian, a cafe on the left as you enter town delivers the perfect Apple Pie Al Amode with your coffee or hot chocolate and a tank refill for those cruisers if needed, most sport bikes can make this full trip on one tank. You trip to Romona can be slower that possible with a good amount of traffic depending on day of week and time, but adequate spaces to pass them if so desired. The trip from Romona to Lakeside opens up to a divided four lane road with cement divider, with large sweepers, seeming all going down hill. Groups of 6 or less are great, as to not get sport bikers waiting too long for cruisers to catch up if so the group. All skills types and riders will enjoy the views and roads, sport bikers will get their fill of twisties!
