Running approximately 120 miles, this route traverses some of the most scenic and historical areas in Southwestern NH as well as dipping into Vermont and Massachusetts.Starting in Winchester, NH at the junction of NH Routes 10 and 119, the route heads east on Rte 119 by the classic New England green in Fitzwilliam, NH. Just west of the jnction of NH Route 119, the route heads north and takes the rider past the Cathedral of the Pines, which has hosted spring bike blessings. Past the Cathedral of the Pines, the route heads west on NH Route 124 towards Jaffrey. Route 124 is an old colonial toll road that heads up the side of Mt. Monadnock, a 3,200 ft peak that rises above the tree line. It has been visited since colonial times by such famous people as Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson. After Mt. Monadnock, the route heads west towards Keene, NH on Route 101. The map shows a backroads route to avoid the traffic congestion in Keene center which will take the rider by the dam at Otter Brook State Park. The side road intersects with Route 9 and the route heads west on Route 9. The route heads north on NH Route 12 just outside of Keene. Taking a left onto Depot Rd takes the route to Route 63, where a left turn head the rider south through the maple syrup and apple farms of Westmoreland. Route 63 is the colonial road that took Eleazar Wheelock from Connecticut to found Dartmouth College. After crossing over NH Route 9, Route 63 skirts Mt. Pisgah State Park into Hinsdale to the junction of Route 119. Heading west on Route 119 into Brattleboro, VT. Just over the Connecticut River, the ride take a hard left after the railroad tracks onto VT Route 142 south into Vernon, VT. Route 142 heads into Massachusetts where it intersects with MA Route 10. Following Route 10 east takes the rider into the village of Northfield, MA with its colonial homes and many historic sites left by the founders of the Pionneer Valley. Taking a left onto Route 63 takes the route back into Hinsdale, NH on a great bike road and then head east on Route 119 back to Winchester. Or the rider can continue on north on Route 10 directly to Winchester, NH from Northfield, MA.
