This is a great route to see some of the best scenery in the Oregon Cascades, without having to backtrack. You should be able to get over the route in less than four hours at a very leisurely pace. There are plenty of things to stop and look at than can make the trip take even longer. If you're in a hurry, it could probably be done in less than three hours. The only town you'll pass through on the route is Detroit, so make sure to get all the fuel and food and drinks you'll need there. There are lots of campgrounds, and you can legally camp almost anywhere along the route on National Forest land.Traffic should be light to moderate most of the time. The entire route is paved, but because winters are hard on the pavement, there are some rough spots and pot holes to keep an eye out for.
