The road to Hyder, AK is a wonderful ride. My version of the road to Hyder starts in Hinton, Alberta, which is on the eastern edge of the spectacular Canadian Rocky Mountains. It isn't very far west of Hinton, along Canada #16, The Yellowhead Trail, that the scenery gets amazing. You'll ride through Jasper National Park and Mt. Robson Provincial Park. Both parks are wonderful. Jasper is on the northern end of the Icefields Parkway which is another 'don't miss it' ride. The scenery never stops on this trip. You'll turn north onto BC #37, The Cassiar Highway, at Kitwanga, BC. Check your gas before leaving the Kitwanga area. The Cassiar is an excellent road in this area. The Cassiar's famous difficulties of mud, dust, construction and frost heaves only rear their ugly heads further north beyond the turnoff to Hyder. At Meziadin Junction, turn west toward Stewart,BC and Hyder, AK. This last few miles of the trip is even more spectacular as the road winds through the narrow valley between the mountains of the Coastal Range. You'll ride very close to Bear Glacier. Watch for wildlife. Stewart is a small town that has most services. Hyder is a tiny burg of little more than a couple of bars, a restaurant and a small motel. Be sure to get 'Hyderized' in one of the local bars. Yeehaw!!!
